Classification of roads in India :

For Rural Roads

1. As per road development plan:

• Expressways
• National Highway
• State Highway
• Major District Roads
• Other District Roads
• Village Roads

2. As per Load:

• Class A
• 70 R Loading  
• Class B
• Class AA

3. As per Traffic Volume :

• Light
• Medium 
• Heavy 

For Urban Roads 

• Arterial Roads
• Sub-arterial Roads
• Collector Roads
• Local Roads
